Ross Head Cottage is a large, spacious newly built bungalow style cottage situated on an elevation in the Glengad area of the spectacular Inishowen Peninsula.
It is nestled away from it all in one of the most northerly points in Donegal, Ireland and boasts superb views of the sea. Looking east of the cottage, Culdaff Beach and the cliffs of Kinnegoe Bay are prominent. On clear days, the the islands of Jura and Islay off the coast of Scotland become visible, this Ireland vacation rental is ideally suited to families or to people just wanting to 'get away from it all'.
Ross Head Cottage and it’s surroundings provide an ideal base for a touring holiday of Inishowen. The area is in fact on the famous “Inishowen 100” route and close to Malin Head. For visitors going to or from Northern Ireland it is possible to get a car ferry between Greencastle and the Northern town of Magilligan on the Causeway Coast. The ferry crossing provides a link to Northern Ireland's main attraction, the Giant's Causeway.

About 15km away to the west, a short drive gets one to Irelands most northerly point at Malin Head. Further south into the peninsula, lie the towns of Carndonagh, Ballyliffin and Clonmany. The famous Ballyliffin Golf Club, with its old and new links would satisfy any golf enthusiast. In the same area, The Isle of Doagh Visitor Centre, with its outdoor museum of a replica 'famine village' set in 1840's Ireland is not to be missed. In late November and December, the centre transforms into 'Santa's Grotto' and is extremely popular with both young and old.
Traditional Irish Cottages An early Christian 7th century stone cross is displayed in Carndonagh, and near Clonmany, the magnificent Glenevin Waterfall - which reveals itself after a pleasant walk through the nearby woodland. At the southern end of the peninsula, the 'Griannan of Aileach' a well preserved ancient stone ring fort looks out over the summit of a hill from which at least 4 counties are visible towards the south. To the north, one can see Lough Swilly and Lough Foyle and the city of Derry to the east.
Co. Derry is the nearest city to the cottage, it is a city steeped in history and is strongly recommended a visit.- for shopping, museums, cinema, theatre, historical buildings, restaurants, pubs, hotels and much more. The "Derry to Ross Head Cottage" route can be viewed on our Ross Head Cottage Locations page - North West Donegal. Other visits we recommend are the Maritime Museum at Greencastle and the Guns of Dunree.
